The ERC Synergy Grant project EUROpest combines history, machine learning natural sciences into an interdisciplinary understanding of how socio-ecological systems shaped epidemics in the past and may influence those in the future.
An Interdisciplinary Approach
EUROpest combines multiple methods in the humanistic and natural sciences to understand how context influences not only regional outbreaks but also the short- and long-term outcomes of pandemic episodes.

Pan-European Coverage
EUROpest includes contexts from across Europe to ensure comprehensive coverage across social, ecological, and political boundaries. Visit our Interactive Map for details!

Epidemic Database
Past plague epidemics variously spread and impacted diƯerent regions across Europe. EUROpest has thus developed a database of epidemic scholarship across specific historical polygons that is openly available following FAIR principals.
An Interdisciplinary Team
The project is backed by an interdisciplinary team of researchers including historians, bioarchaeologists, statisticians, and environmental scientists.
